Team and a Dream Newsletter

May 2008
Dear Adam,

This month's newsletter celebrates our community. Being connected is a huge part of today's business world.  From our social networking panelists, to our client in the spotlight, to our partners and to our meshwork/virtual team members, we are grateful for having such a strong and supportive community.  Even though we have never met many of these people in person, their entrepreneurial spirit and strong contributions are evident to us each day.

Thank you!

Social Media Workshop Recap and Podcast

taad at 100%Thanks to everyone who turned out to make this a great event! Due to high demand, we've made a recording available on our homepage in case you missed it or wanted to review the session. This 90-minute audio includes three panelists discussing how to leverage different aspects of social media for your business.

Quick Recap:

Skip provides an overview of social media, trends and numbers, case studies from Groundswell, and Forrestor's P.O.S.T strategy (starts 5:00 minutes into podcast).

Valeria Maltoni of Conversation Agent discussed Twitter and blogging - mainly how to use it to establish credibility for your business in addition to how to start online conversations with your customers (this starts 15:08 minutes into the podcast).

Ed Callahan, our LinkedIn expert, talked about creating a digital brand and ways to control your digital dirt (Skip to 25:08 to listen to this section). Finally, Gunter Pfau of Stuzo.com discussed Facebook applications and ways to use them for your business (starts around 40:25 minutes into the podcast).

Thanks to all of our panelists and to the Main Line Chamber of Commerce for sponsoring the event. Special thanks to Valeria for writing a great overview of the workshop.

Client Spotlight - Vienna Index
Vienna Logo
Vienna Human Capital Advisors launched the Vienna Index last week - a tool that measures the ROI, productivity, and profit sensitivity of human capital investment over time.

Vienna first approached Team and a Dream last year about helping them to evaluate potential software partners to create this tool.  Our virtual team helped Vienna to create a "Request for Proposal" or RFP.  They later came to Team and a Dream for help with a contact database-building project.
We conducted an interview with Frank DiBernarnido, principal of Vienna HCA, to gain some insight into his Team and a Dream experience.

1) With respect to the RFP definition project, why use an outside firm to help with a software vendor selection?

Frank: We used an outside firm because we lacked expertise on this type of project and we also wanted someone to run the project for us (due to lack of time we had).

2) In what ways did Team and a Dream (TaaD) assist you?

Frank: TaaD provided us with the expertise in the selection of a software development partner. We were in no position to do that and lacked the expertise to be able to do that in any kind of credible matter. They developed the RFP, they helped select the firms that would submit proposals, they analyzed the proposals and response, helped vet the finalist, and assisted us in making the right decision in the selection of our software development partner.

3. How have the results been since completing that project?

Frank: We have completed the development of the initial product and that is being brought to market. We have the prototype for the on-demand version (Software as a Service or SaaS).

4. How did the data mining project benefit Vienna? How have you used the results of that data mining effort?

Frank: For the project, we tried to figure out who wanted to contact and notify our target market that the index was available. We selected a group of early adaptor industries and TaaD helped identify the points of contacts and mailing address so we had a robust and credible database. We will be using this information by setting up a newsletter as an ongoing communication channel on the index with potential users.

Quiz: How Open Are You?

Our business demands that our team members have a strong entrepreneurial spirit.  A key element of success is how open each of us is to new approaches, new business models and new markets.

We had a couple crack Ruby developers, Dinko and Greg, put a tool together that generates quizzes.  Our first quiz helps us to challenge ourselves on Openness.  This five question quiz is available for anyone to try - and it gives some suggestions on how to make yourself more open.

Note: You'll probably be able to figure out which answers are considered "more open" - but if you answer truthfully, you might get some useful advice from the tool.

If you try the quiz, drop us a line or a comment and tell us how it worked for you.

We're currently working on a screening assessment for potential members of a virtual team meshwork to see how well they fit with our projects.

Happy Quizzing!

Sincerely,

Skip Shuda and Yasmine Mustafa
